Minimum Wage
The minimum wage in Uganda varies depending on the sector, with the lowest minimum wage being UGX 130,000 (approximately USD 36) per month in the agricultural sector and the highest being UGX 650,000 (approximately USD 180) per month in the mining and quarrying sector. It is important to note that the government reviews and adjusts the minimum wage every year.
Visa and Work Permits
Foreign nationals require a work permit to work in Uganda legally. Several types of work permits exist, including short-term, long-term, and dependent permits. The application process for a work permit can be lengthy and complicated, but our EOR service offers processing of work visas and permits as part of our services, saving our clients time and effort.
Working Hours
The standard working hours in Uganda are 8 hours per day and 48 hours per week, with a maximum of 6 working days per week. Overtime work is compensated at 1.5 times the normal hourly rate. There are also regulations around rest periods and breaks for employees, which we ensure our clients comply with.
Corporate Taxes

The corporate tax rate in Uganda is 30% for resident companies and 35% for non-resident companies. There are other taxes, such as Capital Gains Tax, Branch Remittance Tax, and Withholding Tax.

Individual Income Tax

Uganda’s individual income tax rate ranges from 0% to 40%, depending on the income level. The tax year in Uganda runs from 1st July to 30th June of the following year.

VAT, Sales, and GST Tax

Value Added Tax (VAT) is charged at a rate of 18% on all goods and services in Uganda, while Sales Tax is charged at a rate of 14% on specific goods and services. There is no Goods and Services Tax (GST) in Uganda.
