Step 1: Go to the Website to start your Registration.
- Go to sha.go.ke, the official website for SHA/SHI registration.
- Click “Register” and select “Kenyan” as your registration type. (There are options for foreign resident and Refugee)
- Enter your phone number, request a one-time password (OTP), and enter the OTP you receive to secure your account.
- Set a secure 4-digit PIN that you’ll use to access your account.
Step 2: Fill out your Personal Information
After setting up your account, enter your personal information
- ID Number: Used to confirm your identity within the SHA system.
- Employment Status: Select your status, such as employed, self-employed, or sponsored. If you’re unemployed, choose “sponsored” to reflect this status.
- Monthly Income: Provide an accurate figure, as your SHA contribution will be calculated at 2.7% of your income, with a minimum of KES 300.
- Verify your account using a one-time password (OTP) sent to your phone.
- Once verified, update your profile by uploading a passport photo and providing details about your employment, marital status, and any dependents.
- Finalize your registration by setting up a PIN for future logins.
Step 3: Add Dependents
- Spouses: Submit proof of marriage, such as a marriage certificate or a letter from the local chief.
- Children:
- For children under 18, provide a birth certificate or birth notification.
- For children aged 18–25, include proof of school enrolment if applicable.
- Other Dependents: Add parents, siblings, or disabled family members by providing their ID numbers.
Step 4: Biometric verification.
To complete your SHIF registration, visit an authorized Social Health Authority agent, such as a Huduma Centre, for biometric verification. Ensure you have the following:
- Original ID: To verify your identity.
- Reference Number: Generated during your online registration.
If you’re registering dependents under 18, they must accompany you to have their biometrics captured. This step is essential to finalize your registration and activate full access to healthcare service.
